Southern Virginia Wins Second Consecutive Director's Cup
For the second straight year, Southern Virginia University takes the top spot in the 2007-08 Director's Cup standings. Robert Morris College and Columbia Union College followed closely behind in 2nd and 3rd place. Click the link above to read the story and view this year's "Director's Cup Top 20".
Virginia Beach, VA - It was announced last week at the 2008 USCAA National Convention that Southern Virginia University has captured the USCAA Director's Cup for the second consecutive year. The Director's Cup is an award presented to the top performing institution at USCAA Championship events.
The Knights began the year, scoring 100 points for their women's National Championship cross county team, as well as 65 points for their men's cross country team who finished 4th and 78 points for their women's volleyball team who finished 3rd. In the winter, SVU's basketball teams both performed well, gaining 3rd place in the women's division (83 points) and 5th place in the Men's division (45 points). The Knights rounded out the year with a 7th place finish in softball, gaining 30 points. They also received 5 points for every sport offered, which gave them 50 more, clinching the top spot.
Southern Virginia was followed closely by Robert Morris College Springfield (392 points) and Columbia Union College (358 points). Both Robert Morris College Springfield and Columbia Union College received plaques at the national convention in honor of their second and third place finishes in the Director's Cup Standings.
