Tyler Brown Throws Perfect Game For Spalding In USCAA Nationals
Freshman lefthander Tyler Brown kept the Spalding Golden Eagles alive at the 2011 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball National Championships with a seven-inning perfect game as they defeated Rochester College (MI) 3-0 at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine on Monday.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH, MAINE -- Freshman lefthander Tyler Brown kept the Spalding Golden Eagles alive at the 2011 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball National Championships with a seven-inning perfect game as they defeated Rochester College (MI) 3-0 at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine on Monday.
This was the first perfect game in the history of the USCAA Baseball National Championships – Small College World Series. Last year a pair of no-hitters were thrown in the event.
Brown kept the Warriors off stride never allowing more than a two ball count to any batter he faced. In the third inning he only threw five pitches with a pair of fly outs and a strikeout to close that inning.
Spalding scored a run in the first inning as Bryan Clemmons singled in Kyle Just who started the game reaching on a two-base error. In the third, Clemmons drove in the other two with a double to right field. In the seventh inning, the Golden Eagles made sure of no slipups on a rain-soaked field. Brown (9-1) squeezed a pair of groundouts to first and a fly ball to shortstop.
With the win, Spalding (29-12) advances to face the loser of Apprentice School and Briarcliffe College on Tuesday.
