2011 USCAA Golf National Championship: Day 1 Recap
Two-time defending USCAA Golf National Champion Rochester College shot a 302 today to end today’s round with a one stroke lead over Lindenwood-Belleville.
STATE COLLEGE, PA. – Two-time defending USCAA Golf National Champion Rochester College shot a 302 to end today’s round with a one stroke lead over Lindenwood-Belleville. Rounding out the top five for team play on Monday was NHTI with a round total of 312, last year’s runner up Apprentice School with a 316, and Penn State Mont Alto with a 326.
Rochester College is paced by Kris Bartling who finished Monday’s round with a 72. Tommy Stirling from Southern Maine Community College is tied with Bartling atop the leaderboard. Bartling and Sterling finished tied for 18th and 22nd respectively in last year's tournament. Rochester teammates Ryan Kapanowski and Brandon Rottiers finished second for the Warriors after recording a 76, tied for seventh overall.
Lindenwood-Belleville’s Justin Robinson is leading the second place Lynx with a one over par 73. In second place for Lindenwood is Bo Cook, sixth overall in the tournament after shooting a 75. Tied with Robinson for 3rd is defending champion Ben Hunter from the Apprentice School. In the first round last year Hunter shot a two-under 70 to take a three stroke lead into the second day of the tournament. Kyle Mutter from the Apprentice School rounds out the top five, carding a 74 for the day.
The final round of the 2011 USCAA Golf National Championship will tee off at 9 am tomorrow. The round will be followed by a banquet and awards ceremony.
