USCAA Adds Ten New Members for 2008-09

The United States Collegiate Athletic Association is proud to announce that all Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) members will join the USCAA next season.  For the USCAA, this will mean ten new members, and a complete membership over 60 members for the first time in the association's history.  New members from the PSUAC include the following:

  • Pennsylvania College of Technology
  • Penn State Abington
  • Penn State Brandywine
  • Penn State Hazleton
  • Penn State Lehigh Valley
  • Penn State Mont Alto
  • Penn State Schuylkill
  • Penn State Wilkes-Barre
  • Penn State Worthington Scranton
  • Penn State York

PSUAC Director, John Fritz, says, "We look forward to having our entire Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) join the USCAA. The fact that five of our Penn State campuses are current members and the positive experiences they have enjoyed made it an easy decision for us to join as a conference beginning with the 2008-09 academic year.  We especially look forward to our teams having the opportunity to compete for national championships and for our student athletes to receive the national academic and athletic recognition that the USCAA provides."

These new Penn State colleges join current members PSU Beaver, PSU New Kensington, PSU Fayette, PSU DuBois, and PSU Greater Allegheny.  The now fifteen PSUAC colleges have been recognized by the USCAA as a conference.  The PSUAC conference champion for each sport will be awarded an automatic bid to each USCAA Championship event.  USCAA Commissioner, Bill Casto states, "The USCAA is very excited and proud to welcome the PSUAC to our association.  A group of this size is sure to make a significant impact in the association and we look forward to providing them with as many opportunities as possible."

"By increasing our membership, we are furthering our goal to professionalize the organization and significantly improve the quality of our championship events.  This is a stepping stone for many great things to come for this association in the next few years," says Casto.

USCAA President Dave Gonyea states, "I am pleased that the chancellors [PSUAC] have chosen to join our association.  This is truly a win-win opportunity that I think will benefit both the PSUAC as a conference and the USCAA as a whole.  Our past experience dealing with Ron Nichols, Andy Kirschner, and Ryan Astor at the national convention shows us the significant commitments that so many people have made from the PSUAC to make this happen.  The USCAA will make every effort to provide vast opportunities for these schools and place great value in their efforts.  Finally,  I would like to recognize the efforts of Commissioner Bill Casto and Assistant Commissioner Matt Simms who played a significant part in making this transition seamless and who continue to work hard to advance the USCAA and benefit all that are involved."

The USCAA is proud of the growth that has occurred with the addition of the PSUAC.  Please join us in welcoming each of these schools to our association.
