2016 USCAA Convention Moves to Historic City of Richmond, VA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 22nd, 2015

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) has reached an agreement with Richmond Region Tourism and the Richmond Marriott to host the 2016 and 2018 USCAA National Convention. The 2016 National Convention will held June 5th-8th.

The USCAA National Convention is an annual meeting of member institutions’ athletic directors, coaches and administrators. The event includes guest speakers, professional development sessions, committee meetings, networking opportunities, sponsor and vendor displays, as well as social events. Richmond provides a central location for the USCAA and an easily accessible location from the Richmond International Airport.

The city of Richmond holds over 400 years of history with cobblestone streets, monuments, boutique stores and beautiful parks leaving endless possibilities for visitors to explore during their stay. Events from past Conventions include boat outings, golf tournaments, and sporting events. This year’s location provides the opportunity to visit many of the up and coming restaurants, or a chance to visit many locations associated with the Civil War.

In addition to logistical support, Richmond Regional Tourism has provided a presenting sponsorship for this year’s welcome social.

“We are thrilled to take the 2016 and 2018 National Convention to the city of Richmond. Corey Peterson and Richmond Region Tourism have worked hard to ensure that our stay will be first class.  Richmond is being touted nationally not only as an outstanding tourist destination, but also one of the fastest growing economies. We look forward to showing off all that Richmond has to offer with its vast history, nationally renowned restaurants, and rich culture,” states USCAA Executive Director Matt Simms.

“From the beginning of this process we viewed our hosting of the National Convention as the first of many USCAA-related events in the Richmond Region so our goals always extended beyond the meeting itself.  In addition to highlighting the USCAA with our local media, we supported as the welcome social and introduced elements such as a community-based philanthropic endeavor to really showcase our commitment to assisting the conference leadership in accomplishing its core mission and values,” states Corey Peterson, Director of Sports Development for Richmond Region Tourism.

Additional details on this year’s Convention, including a full schedule of events and registration information, will be made available in January. The USCAA encourages all member institutions to send a representative to the 2016 National Convention.
