Men’s Basketball DI

Player of the Week

Matt Chattin, a sophomore guard from Ave Maria University, is the Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Matt led the Gyrenes in scoring in back-to-back games after being limited by a wrist injury against Valor Christian. Chattin had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals against Vermont Tech and a day later scored 22 points and added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals against #2 ranked Apprentice School. Ave Maria was 3-0 on the week and won the Ave Maria University Men’s Basketball Classic.

Men’s Basketball DII

Player of the Week

Kaseem Williams, a junior guard from Berkeley College (NY) is the Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.  Kaseem played in four games on the week totaling 81 points on 43% shooting, and adding 11 rebounds and 11 steals. Williams led the Knights with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and six assists in an upset win over NCAA D-III DeSales University. Kaseem finished the week with 26 points in a buzzer beating loss to NHTI in the finals of the NHTI Tournament.

Women’s Basketball

Player of the Week

Kelley Collins, a freshman forward from NHTI is the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. In two games this past week Collins scored 42 points and pulled in 31 rebounds. Her week was highlighted by a 20 point and 20 rebound effort against Massasoit Community College. Kelly was named an All-Tournament Player in the New Year’s Basketball Tournament hosted by NHTI.

Wrestling

Wrestler of the Week

Michael Pavasko, a freshman wrestler from Penn State—Greater Allegheny is the wrestler of the week. Michael finished first last week in the 165 pound division at the Waynesburg Invitational.  Pavasko scored a 3-1 decision over Ohio Valley’s Tyler George to become the first wrestler in Greater Allegheny’s history to finish first at such an event. Penn State—Greater Allegheny finished 12th in the 31 team tournament.
