Late Run by #12 Rhema Not Enough to Upset #5 Bennett College
Broken Arrow, OK- During an intense first round game of the 2008 USCAA Women's Basketball National Championships, #5 Bennett College defeated #12 Rhema Bible College. In a hard fought battle the Lady Eagles fell to Bennett College with a final score of 55-46.
The game started off neck and neck, with Rhema looking to make the first upset of this year's Championships. With the strong inside play of Lady Eagle Cortney Becker, who had a double-double on the night with 23 points and 16 rebounds, Rhema was able to move into the half with a 3 point lead (27-24).
Leading Bennett College to victory in a joint effort were guards, Kenyetta Johnson and Nicole Miller, who both scored 12 points. Asia Smith pulled down 16 rebounds and had 8 points. After a late second half run, Bennett College was up by double digits. Rhema made a late run with two minutes remaining, however, it wasn't enough to upset Bennett.
Rhema Bible College moves into the loser bracket and will play on Thursday at 10:00pm against the loser of #8 UC-Clermont and #9 Briarcliffe. Bennett College will move into the quarter finals and play defending National Champions #4 Concordia College at 6:00pm tomorrow night.
