Fast Breaks Lead to a 76-53 Victory for Briarcliffe
Broken Arrow, OK - A four point deficit was the closest #8 University of Cincinnati-Clermont would see of the lead, as #9 Briarcliffe stepped it up in the second half to beat the Lady Cougars of Cincinnati 76-53.
The first half of action saw UC Clermont up by about 5 points most of the way. At the 7:28 mark, the score was tied 26-26. From there Briarcliffe went on a 5-0 run, which eventually led to the four point lead at the break. A series of turnovers by UC Clermont and fast breaks from Briarcliffe, led BC to a 19-3 run early in the second. Despite hot shooting from beyond the arc by Rachel Brewer of UC Clermont, the Lady Cougars never caught wind of tying the game.
Briarcliffe was charged in scoring by Helena Sergeant and Leona Virgo who each had 17 points, followed by Jenese Bennett who posted 16 and Elisha Raiford with 12. Rachel Brewer dominated Clermont scoring, posting 20 points to add to 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Allison David also added 12 points and four rebounds to the mix for the Lady Cougars.
#8 UC Clermont now moves to the losers bracket and will take on #12 Rhema Bible College at 10pm Thursday evening. #9 Briarcliffe must match up against #1 Southern Virginia University, who has held that ranking ever since a win over #3 Penn State Beaver mid-way through the season. Game time is at 2:00pm on Thursday.
