Matt Richards joined the USCAA Board of Directors in June of 2006.  Since that time Richards has been the Vice President of Marketing and Eligibility Chair for the Association.

Richards was hired at Southern Maine Community College in 2003 as the Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball Coach.  As Director of Athletics, Richards he has built the SMCC program into one of the most competitive small college programs within New England.  During his tenure, SMCC has added two additional sports programs along with increasing the other sports programs to compete on the regional and national stage.  Richards has also overseen the renovation of the college’s athletic facilities to meet the needs of the growing program.

On the hardwood, Richards has developed a very competitive program at SMCC.  He has been named conference coach of the year twice (2004, 2007).  His teams have produced several All-Americans and his teams have qualified for multiple national tournament appearances.

Prior to SMCC and the USCAA, Richards worked at the University of New England in the Athletic Office in a variety of roles.  He also was an adjunct instructor in the Sports Management program teaching courses in Program and Facility Management, Intro to Sports Management, and Internship Site Coordinator.

When not working for SMCC or the USCAA, Richards spends his time with his wife Maureen and two daughters Ally and Emily.  He can also be seen rooting on the Boston Red Sox!
