The native of West Virginia is heading into his sixth year as Executive Director of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. Prior to taking this position, he served as the Director of Athletics at The Apprentice School for 15 years until March of 2008.
Casto had worked for the Northrop Grumman and The Apprentice School including serving four years as Administrator, Education Relations for Training Systems.
As director of athletics at The Apprentice School, he had responsiblilty for all extracurricular activities of The Apprentice School, including the intercollegiate athletic program, the student association and its related activities and the development and implementation of the Student Services program. As one of the three operational managers of The Apprentice School, he assisted with the planning, evaluating and managing of the school.
He is a long-time former football coach having served as a graduate assistant football coach at West Virginia University and as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at William & Mary where he worked with current Apprentice School Manager of Student Services and former head football coach Phil Janaro. His coaching tenures also included a couple of stints with the Builders as an assistant head coach; from 1980-84 as an offensive coach, and 1988-89 as a defensive coach. He also coached high school football at James Wood in Winchester and Warren County in Front Royal, Va.
He also serves on the Board of Directors for Virginia Amateur Sports. Casto, a strong supporter of cancer research, also serves on the design committee for a Healing Garden at the Riverside Cancer Center in Newport News helping to design a soothing area for caregivers as well as patients.
Bill was inducted into the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Hall of Fame Founders Club in March of 2007 for his work with that association where he still serves on the advisory board. In June of that year he was named the Peninsula Sports Club Sports Person of the Year for long-time achievement.
He is also a nationally recognized wood sculptor and competes nationally in Interprative Wild Fowl Carving.
