Newport News, VA- The USCAA would like to congratulate this week's selections for Player of the Week. These players were selected for their on field performance through the week of April 13th - April 20th.
Baseball
Player of the Week- John Mendez- St. Joseph's College, C/3B, Fr., Brooklyn, NY- Mendez went 5-for-5 with a home run, three doubles, a stolen base, eight RBI and four runs in a victory over Lincoln University. For the week, Mendez accumulated a .480 batting average, .880 slugging percentage and .536 on-base percentage. The freshman catcher/third baseman hit his first two career home runs and added four doubles, three walks, two stolen bases, 15RBI and 10 runs for the week.
Pitcher of the Week- Steven Sitter- Columbia Union, P, Grass Valley, CA- Sitter threw at least one inning in each of Columbia Union's three wins this week. The Pioneers' right-hander threw one inning in each game of the teams' double-header with Lincoln University. He struck out four while facing the minimum hitters (six). In a 4-3 victory over East Stroudsburg University Sitter threw eight and a third scoreless innings. He allowed just five hits, walked two and struck out three.
Softball
Player of the Week- Jennifer Edsall- PSU-Hazelton, OF, Fr., Honesdale, PA- Edsall went 15-for-28 (.536) at the plate over an eight game stretch. The Lady Lions freshman had three doubles, two triples, five homeruns, 12 runs scored and 17 RBI. Edsall has homered in four consecutive games while helping her team to a 7-1 record this week.
Co-Pitcher of the Week- Allie Neff- Robert Morris College-Springfield, P, Jr., Decatur, IL- Neff allowed no runs, five hits and two walks, while striking out eight in two Lady Eagle victories.
Co-Pitcher of the Week- Lisa Scheer- St. Joseph's College, P, Fr., Queens, NY- Scheer went 3-0 this week, including two complete game shutouts of New Rochelle and New York University. She surrendered three hits over the two games. Against New York University the Lady Bears' freshman tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 11. For the week, Scheer had a 1.33 ERA (21.0 innings), eight hits, 25 strikeouts and two walks.
