Robert Morris rallies to knock off Lyndon State 9-8
HAMPTON, VA. - Bryan Friedrich's two-run double highlighted a four-run seventh for eighth-seeded Robert Morris-Springfield as they defeated fourth-seeded Lyndon State College 9-8 on Wednesday in the 2008 USCAA Baseball National Championships.
The Eagles now advance to the third-place game on Thursday at 11 am against the loser of Columbia Union College and Apprentice School.
Lyndon State trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth when they exploded for five runs behind RBI singles from Josh Fletcher, Jordan Royer, Ben Clark, Matt Lapham and one on an error.
In the seventh, Justin Anderson singled in a run to cut the lead to 8-6 and a sacrifice fly from T.J. McCoy scored Miles Morris for an 8-7 Lyndon State lead. Freidrich followed with a double to left-center scoring a pair for a 9-8 lead.
Lyndon State had a chance in the seventh leaving a pair of runners on as Jake Walsh came in and struck out Jake Ainsworth for the final out.
Anderson was 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead Robert Morris while Ben Clark was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for Lyndon State.
