Late Rally Lifts Lyndon State Over Penn State Beaver 4-3
HAMPTON, VA. - Michael Swan's one-out single in the top of the seventh scored Dana Biondi with the winning run as Lyndon State eliminated top-seeded Penn State Beaver 4-3 in the 2008 USCAA Baseball National Championships on Wednesday.
Lyndon State advances now to face the winner of Robert Morris-Springfield and Southern Maine CC at 4 pm.
The Hornets scored three runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Jordan Royer, a RBI double from Swan and a groundout by Adrian Guyer. Penn State responded with three in the bottom of the sixth scoring one on an error and a pair of RBI singles from Nate Stonfer and Pat Ringel.
In the seventh, Josh Fletcher started with a single and advanced on a walk to Biondi. Rob Malloy reached base on a fielders choice forcing out Fletcher and Swan followed with his RBI single to right field scoring Biondi.
Matthew Picard picked up the win throwing 1.1 innings of relief allowing one hit for Lyndon State. Ringel and Stonfer had a pair of hits each for Penn State Beaver.
