Rochester College Leads USCAA Golf By One Stroke Over Apprentice School After One Round

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Defending USCAA National Champion Rochester College shot a 311 round on Monday to hold a one-stroke lead over The Apprentice School and a five-stroke advantage over Lindenwood-Belleville University after round one of the 2010 USCAA National Championships.

Gary Turner was the low man for Rochester with a one-over-par 73 to be in a tie for second in the 87-player event.  Bobby Devoursney was next for the Warriors at 78 which puts him in a tie for ninth place.

Apprentice School was paced by freshman Ben Hunter who recorded the only sub-par round of the tournament with a two-under-par 70 to hold a three-shot lead.  Senior Wade Traynham was next in line at 74 to be tied for fourth place.

First-year USCAA member Lindenwood-Belleville was paced by Arthur Burton who carded a 78 to join Devoursney in the tie for ninth place.  Brett Denap and Mike Manus each shot 79 to be in a tie for 13th place.

Rounding out the top five teams were Penn State Wilkes-Barre (321) and Penn State Mont Alto (324).

The final round will tee off at 8 am Tuesday morning with the awards ceremony wrapping up the event late afternoon.
