2006 USCAA National Invitational Baseball Tournament: Day Three Results

Day Three of the 2006 USCAA National Invitational Baseball Tournament is complete with the following games having been played.

After the end of pool play on Wednesday, three teams were tied with 3-1 records – Apprentice School, Briarcliffe College and Presentation College. After applying the fewest runs allowed tiebreaker and then due to Presentation College defeating the Apprentice School 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon, the Saints are the top-seed and will face Columbia Union College at 9 a.m. Apprentice School will be the second seed and face Briarcliffe again at 11:30 a.m. The winners will play at 6 p.m. for the 2006 USCAA National Invitational Championship.

Game 7 - Apprentice School 6, Florida College 2 Box Score
Senior Ben Jones pitched 3.2 innings of relief to pick up his 13th victory of the year as the Apprentice School defeated Florida College 6-2 to start Wednesday's action at the 2006 United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Invitational Championship in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Freshman J.D. Drewry had a pair of two-run singles in the second and again in the fourth to put the Builders up 4-1. In the fifth, Harding Epps started the inning with a single and advanced to third on a double by Ryan Scott. A pair of RBI groundouts from Matt Marshall and Cato-Dixon scored the final two runs.

Four Builders had two hits each -- Eric Polk, Epps, Dixon and Drewry to lead the 10-hit attack. Robby Woodke was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for Florida College.

Game 8 - Presentation College 12, Columbia Union 4 Box Score
Presentation College scored two runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to break open a close game and defeat Columbia Union College 12-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Jared Koopman doubled in two runs in the sixth inning as the Saints knocked off the Division II Pioneers. He along with William Grueter and Brett Chlebecek drove in two runs, while Grueter, Kevin Mahoney and Logan Huber had two hits for Presentation.

Columbia Union had Charles Rupert go 2-for-4, while Ryan Brown drove in two runs.

Matt Lokenvitz went the distance allowing seven hits to pick up the win, while Michael Passarell took the loss allowing five runs in 3.1 innings.

Game 9 - Apprentice School 16, Briarcliffe College 6 Box Score
The Apprentice School scored nine runs in the first four innings against Briarcliffe College and cruised to a 16-6 victory in its second game on Wednesday.

The Builders were the beneficiary of 13 walks and five hit batters as they scored nine runs in the first four innings. Harding Epps was walked three times and drove in three runs, while Eric Polk was walked a school record four times and drove in two runs.

Freshman Kyle Center was 3-for-4 with three runs scored while J.D. Drewry joined Epps driving in three runs as he went 1-for-2 with two walks. Matt Marshall and Ryan Scott had two hits each against the Seahawks.

Briarcliffe was paced by Dan O’Brien going 3-for-4 and Baldwin Vargas who hit the first home run of the tournament with a two-run shot to left field in the seventh.

Game 10 - Presentation College 10, Florida College 4 Box Score
Jarred Koopman went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs as Presentation College defeated Florida College 10-4 to close out pool play on Wednesday.

The Saints gave up a run in the first and then answered with four in the second, four in the third and two more in the fourth.

Matt Lokenvitz, Kevin Mahoney and Ben Kulset had two hits each for Presentation as Zach Harry picked up the win with six innings allowing two runs and three hits.

Florida College was paced by Kyle Ragsdale with a 2-for-3 performance and he drove in three of the four runs.
