Lorie Khalil and Her International Connection
LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. - Lorie Khalil is the Head Coach of Women’s Basketball at Penn State Lehigh Valley, and is entering her 10th season there, and 20th season as a coach. During her years at Lehigh Valley, Khalil and her teams have seen much success on the court and in the classroom. Khalil has led her teams to a winning record since beginning in 2014-2015 as well as a PSUAC Championship in 2019. She has coached multiple 1,000 point scorers in her tenure, including the school's all-time leading scorer, Andrea Watkins.
In the classroom her players are excelling too, Khalil has had many athletes garner All-Academic honors for having a GPA above a 3.0 and 3.5. Khalil’s most recent accolade was being named the 2023 USCAA D2 Coach of the Year, as well as a 2 time PSUAC Coach of the Year (2017,2019).
Going along with her coaching at Lehigh Valley, Khalil has done 3 international tours with SAWUSA (Student-Athlete World USA), this group provides a unique opportunity for student
athletes to travel to foreign countries to compete against international competition while also exploring their cultures to create a “once in a lifetime experience”. During her 3 tours, Khalil has been to Portugal/Spain (2021), Argentina (2022) and most recently Costa Rica in 2023.
When asked about her experience on tours with SAWUSA, Khalil said, "So thankful for Student-Athlete World USA that they provide this opportunity for players and coaches, President Tim Ryerson runs top notch tours along with the ground partners in those countries. Being able to see other parts of the world, coach internationally in Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Costa Rica and meet players & parents from all over the US has really been life enhancing experiences."
