  • [Acro-Airs] BEN JOHNSON CELEBRATES 20TH YEAR AS HEAD COACH FOR ACRO-AIRS
    April 19, 2019

Takoma Park, Md - For the past twenty years the Washington Adventist University Acro-Airs has been under the leadership of Ben Johnson. Johnson recruited to then Columbia Union College to play basketball found a home with the Acro-Airs team and has never looked back since. This season marks Coach Johnson's twentieth year as head coach of Acro-Airs

    Coach Johnson's Statement
"It seems like just a year ago that I started working at my alma mater. It was an incredible opportunity for someone first year out of undergrad.  Since then I have changed positions within the university serving in different capacities from athletics to full-time instructor and back to athletics, all the while remaining the Acro-Airs coach. I love serving in many capacities at WAU but anyone that knows me knows that the Acro-Airs is my passion, it is the reason I came to the college in the first place as a student. I remember my coach mentoring me as his assistant coach and telling me I would do great when I took over the reins, and I remember doubting his assessment. I am honored to have been able to serve so long, and thankful God has provided so many opportunities for success in this ministry, with so many lives I have had the opportunity to be a part of.
I still remember what it was like to go to my first practice as a recruit, then 5 years later to run to my first practice as a coach. I still get both of those feelings walking in the gym to start practice to this day."
