AKRON, OH- Led by an impressive pitching performance by Honorable Mention All-American Tia McIntosh, third-seeded Spalding University defeated second-seeded Lindenwood-Belleville by a score of 3-2 in the second round of the 2012 USCAA Softball National Championship. McIntosh pitched seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) and striking out four in the winning effort. Peyton French added a two RBI single in the pivotal fifth inning where Spalding took the 3-2 lead that they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.
The Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx had RBI hits from Samantha Kleekamp and Samantha Pacheco. All-American Stephanie Holiday, the winner in the early game, pitched five more innings in a losing effort giving up all three Golden Eagle runs. Lindenwood-Belleville will move to the loser's bracket where they will face Saint Mary of the Woods College at 12:00 PM. Spalding University moves on to face #1 seed Carlow University in the semi-finals of the winner's bracket.
