AKRON, OH- The Carlow University Celtics advanced to the winner's bracket semifinals by defeating Briarcliffe College 9-3. Carlow was led by second basemen Rebecca Blyth who went 2-3 and had 3 RBI's. Melissa Costantini pitched the distance for the Celtics giving up three runs in the first two innings before settling down and finishing with seven strikeouts. Carlow University will face the winner of the Lindenwood-Belleville – Spalding University game at 2:00 PM tomorrow.
The Lady Bulldogs got another solid performance from All-American Jillian McGovern who went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI. McGovern, the early game starter, pitched an inning and two thirds in relief of starter Yvette Yi-Santiago who lasted only 4 1/3 innings after giving up eight runs (5 earned). Briarcliffe College struggled in the field committing six errors that led to three unearned runs. The Lady Bulldogs will face the winner of the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) – Penn State Beaver game at 10:00 AM tomorrow morning.
