#2 Lindenwood-Belleville 7 - #4 Saint Mary of the Wood's 8
AKRON, OH- Trailing by six runs at one point, the Saint Mary of the Woods Pomeroy's scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game, capped by a three-run home run from All-American Sara Goelz. Shelby Barnett singled in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning to complete the comeback. Goelz also pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief of Garrnett Stenger who left due to injury after 1/3 of an inning relieving starter Dannielle Owens.
The Pomeroys jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Lindenwood-Belleville in the top of the first inning on a Sara Goelz RBI single, but the Lady Lynx answered back in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own. Alexandra Alakai doubled to lead off the second inning, advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Nafeesa Witherspoon, and scoring off an RBI single from Samantha Kleekamp to give Lindenwood a 4-1 lead. The Lady Lynx would tack on three more runs in the third inning to stretch the lead to 7-1.
All-American's Goelz and Barnett led the Pomeroy's offensively combining to go 5-8 with seven RBI's. Alakai, Kleekamp, Kelly Washburn, and Sierra Redmon all had multi-hit games for a Lady Lynx team that pounded out 13 hits. Saint Mary of the Woods will move to play Briarcliffe College in a rematch of the first game of the tournament, won by Briarcliffe. Lindenwood-Belleville will play in the fifth place game at 6:00 PM tonight against PSU Beaver.
