#1 Carlow University 0 - #4 Saint Mary of the Woods 8
AKRON, OH- The Saint Mary of the Wood's Pomeroy's have advanced to the 2012 USCAA Softball National Championship game(s) by defeating the Carlow University Celtics in dominating fashion during the night game of the second day of the Softball Small College World Series. Saint Mary's got another dominating performance by All-American Sara Goelz, who went 3-3 with an RBI and pitched five scoreless innings striking out five. Goelz tallied nine RBI's on the day leading Saint Mary's to their fourth win of the tournament.
The game went final after five innings with the eight run rule in effect. The Pomeroy's tallied 14 hits off Carlow starter Melissa Costantini and watched eight of their nine starters grab at least one hit in the contest. Saint Mary's center fielder Kelsey Roselli went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI's to lead the Pomeroy's offensively. Carley Painter and Melinda Bauer also contributed multi-hit games in the win.
Carlow University, the NAIA's American Mideast Conference champions and the number one seed in the tournament, exit as the third-place finisher. Meghan Dulaney, Shelby Rodgers, and Rebecca Blyth had the Celtic's three hits in the game. Saint Mary of the Wood's will advance to play Spalding University in the first game of the 2012 Softball National Championship at 12:00 PM on Thursday. The Pomeroy's will need to win that game to advance to a second championship game at 2:00 PM that would determine the 2012 USCAA Softball National Champion.
