Eighth-seeded Penn College defeated #9 University of Maine-Machias by the score of 2-1 in a game that ended after nine rounds of penalty kicks at Trace Fork Field to reach the quarterfinals of the 2013 USCAA Women's Soccer National Championship. The University of Maine-Machias outshot Penn College 34-13, but could only get one shot past Wildcats goalkeeper Colleen Bowes. The freshman goalkeeper had several spectacular saves on the day, saving seven during regulation and eight during the two 10 minute overtimes to lead her team to victory.
Penn College will face #1 University of Maine-Fort Kent, tomorrow at 3:30pm at Trace Fork Field on Thursday. The University of Maine-Machias will move onto the consolation bracket for a match up with #7 Paul Smith's College at Trace Fork Field at 10:30am on Thursday.
